Welcome to Japan Fitness Hacks. I’m your host—a local Japanese lifter, a factory worker, and a dedicated trainee navigating the unique world of Japanese fitness every single day.
From the Factory Floor to the Squat Rack
My life isn’t lived in a pristine office. I work a demanding three-shift rotation in a manufacturing facility in Gunma Prefecture. Whether I’m finishing a night shift or leading my team as a “Hancho” (group leader), my schedule is anything but consistent. But there is one constant in my life: The Gym.
Balancing heavy lifting with irregular hours, strict Japanese gym etiquette, and the challenge of finding the right nutrition in a country that loves its carbs has taught me one thing: To survive and thrive as a lifter in Japan, you need “Hacks.”
Why I Started “Japan Fitness Hacks”
I’ve seen countless foreign lifters feel lost in Japan. I’ve seen them get kicked out for tattoos they didn’t know how to cover, struggle to read kanji on protein labels, or give up on their macros because they couldn’t find a “Western-style” meal prep. I started this blog to bridge that gap.
Japan is often seen as a difficult place for serious fitness enthusiasts, but I believe the opposite. With the right knowledge, Japan is a fitness paradise. From the high-quality protein at every “Konbini” (convenience store) to the hidden gems of municipal gyms and specialized local supplements—there is a Japanese way to get shredded.
What You’ll Find Here
I don’t give you generic advice from a textbook. I give you real, battle-tested information based on my life as a local trainee:
- Gym Culture Decoded: The unspoken rules of Gold’s Gym, Anytime Fitness, and local public gyms so you never get a “yellow card.”
- The Tattooed Lifter’s Guide: How to navigate Japan’s strict rules while still getting your pump.
- Konbini & Dining Hacks: How to hit 200g of protein a day using only 7-Eleven, Lawson, and local restaurants like Yakiniku Like.
- Supplement Insider: Which Japanese brands actually work and how to source the best gear without overpaying.
My Mission
My goal is simple: To make sure that being in Japan is the best thing that ever happened to your physique.
Whether you are here for a two-week vacation or you’ve moved here permanently, I want to help you crush your goals. You don’t have to pause your gains just because you’re in the Land of the Rising Sun.
Let’s lift, eat, and hack our way to greatness together.
